Big Fire Pinot Noir: Creative Brief

Client:
Big Fire Pinot Noir

Brief History:
Big Fire Pinot Noir is a product of R. Stuart & Co., a company based out of McMinnville, Oregon. R. Stuart Co. is a family owned winery/restaurant started by Robert Stuart, who began his wine-making career in Napa Valley, an area known for the production of various wines. Big Fire Pinot Noir is the main pinot noir produced by the company. The name "Big Fire" is said to be a "whimsical reflection of the passion we (R. Stuart & Co.) have for what we do".

Mission:
My mission for the redesign of Big Fire Pinot Noir is to give it an entirely different look. Currently, Big Fire Pinot Noir has a fairly simple design that is not very eye-catching. I would like to take this product into another direction by playing with the wine's brand name and create a simple, yet elegant, and visually pleasing product that will stand out amongst all of its competition.

Changes:
My overall idea is to take the name "Big Fire" and create a simple graphic hints at a "fire", but does not display one up front. In this case, I will create an image that depicts the aftermath of a "big fire". To further carry this idea, I have created numerous illustrations resembling the silhouette of a burned grape vine. This image will carry over into the packaging design for which I have a couple ideas for. One will be to wrap the neck of the bottle in a real or faux vine to carry the illustration throughout the bottle, or build a wooden box with a burned effect and use wood burning to further carry my ideas. I have also considered mixing the two.
